We love Carly Rae Jepsen with a fiery passion. So when E•MO•TION Side B dropped we basically lost most our minds (actually, probably just Emmet) thanks to immaculately constructed and performed pop music.

Naturally, Emmet decided to go overboard and make a megaplaylist containing the deluxe edition of E•MO•TION and Side B, plus his favorite official remixes. Enjoy.

Good night, sweet Prince

Listen on Apple Music

Today marks 3 months to the day that Prince passed. These are 25 songs by artists I believe we wouldn't have without him. I could wax about the extent and the profundity of his influence, but it's already been done by people much more fluent in that narrative than I. Perhaps it's better just to take the time, and to listen, and to love the music that is, forever and indirectly, part of his legacy.

Judith Hill — "As Trains Go By"

Cecilia and I had the great fortune to see Judith and Prince play this together at Paisley Park in October of 2015.

Kimbra — "Carolina"

Kimbra herself had some lovely ramblings to share with the world shortly after Prince's passing. Along with Janelle Monáe, I don't think there are any two artists who owe more to Prince.

St. Vincent — "Regret"

Ben Khan — "Youth"

Denitia & sene — "Side FX"

Christine and the Queens — "Narcissus Is Back"

Harriet Brown — "Control My Mind"

Carly Rae Jepsen — "E•MO•TION"

Deep Cotton — "Let's Get Caught (feat. Jidenna)"

Thundercat — "Them Changes"

Lianne de Havas — "Green and Gold"

Lauryn Hill — "Superstar"

Lizzo — "Ride"

Unfortunately, Lizzo is the only Minneapolis artist who made it onto this playlist. That was partly by design. I wanted to focus more on breadth, scope, reach.

Janelle Monae — "Q.U.E.E.N. (feat. Erykah Badu)"

In her set at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Janelle said it best. "I am because he was."

Alabama Shakes — "Gimme All Your Love"

D'Angelo and the Vanguard — "Prayer"

Jhené Aiko — "It's Cool"

FKA twigs — "Closer"

Kendrick Lamar — "i"

Lucius — "Almost Makes Me Wish for Rain"

HAIM — "If I Could Change Your Mind"

Florence + the Machine — "Cosmic Love"

At her June 2, 2016 performance in St. Paul, Florence dedicated this song to Prince. It seemed odd at first, especially because I was hoping for a cover. But no matter. It seems fitting now.

Tove Lo — "Talking Body"

Prince was as much about sex as anything else. I think it's critical to remember that he was a force that pushed sex-driven music into the mainstream.

Gallant — "Jupiter"

Beyoncé — "Love On Top"

Not gonna lie. I cried at her concert in Minneapolis, when she treated us to her famed rendition of "The Beautiful Ones." She seemed to know that she was performing near hallowed ground.
